SKYWATCH FRIDAY - WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON GLOBALLY?

I usually photograph the sunrise from the same place in my apartment kitchen.  Today, it is
noted that the sunrise is occurring behind the square building with the chimney.

A month ago, before the Chilean earthquake,  it was rising closer to the right of the picture,
as noted below.

It has been reported by a NASA scientist that the Chilean Quake has shifted the earth's Axis;  that, while individuals would not experience the magnitude of the shift, it means that our days are
a bit shorter because of it.   The story was written by Alex Morales for Bloomberg on March 1, 2010, at 2.28 PM East:  "CHILEAN QUAKE SHFTED EARTH'S AXIS"  It can be googled.

Yes, in the meantime, we have set our clocks forward an hour, but would this make much of a
difference where the sun rises, I wonder.   Curious Skywatcher!

  1. Great shots, Margaret, and that really is interesting information! Not that we need any more weird things happening in the world these days! Hope you have a great weekend!

  2. It probably has more to do with the axis shift and change of seasons than the slight shift we had with the earthquake. The sun will rise again from the same spot, at this time next year.

  3. It's a bit unsettling, thinking about the world shifting on its axis! Let's hope your shifts are seasonal. I think we all have a bit too much information these days! In the past we wouldn't even have known about the Chilean earthquake!

  6. I think it is more seasonal than axis changing --
but thre might be a teeny glimmer of truth in the idea.
At least the seasons are changing and so we
can go for a walk instead of hiding indoors!
