SKYWATCH FRIDAY: WATCHING THE SUN RISE....

Because my view point is always the same, (from my kitchen window), the sun can be seen to rise anywhere on the horizon between the left and the right side of the photo periodically, as the world turns....

SKYWATCH FRIDAY: MY TAKE ON THE HARVEST MOON LAST NIGHT....

Rarely, with my camera, do I get a shot of the moon:   last night my neighbours and I watched the full Moon in all its Harvest glory at 7:10 pm rising above the eastern skyline.  We live in a building on Fourth Avenue, NYC and gathered on the roof for this wonderful opportunity on a clear night to see this spectacular 'phenomenon'.
(The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox and one of the most beautiful full moons of the year with its large size and color).

And fireworks going off somewhere where I would usually see the sun rise...

THEN, the next morning at 6:46 am, I am watching the sun rise, as I sit posting this blog in my10th floor apartment in the same building.

RUBY TUESDAY: SYRIA AND WHAT MATTERS TODAY: READ ALL ABOUT IT...

SAME WAR, DIFFERENT COUNTRY, by Thomas L Friedman, Op-ED Columnist, NYTimes

Woodcut (1969)                                  MG

"Thousands of people are in desperate need and it requires all the great international powers to stop this war and agree on a settlement, because the refugee crisis cannot be solved without them." Says
Deborah Amos, veteran National Public Radio correspondent, in a discussion with Phil Donahue, September 6,  about the human toll of the Syrian fighting, and the potential impact of millions of displaced people on the region.

In short, people are in desperate need, are on the move to neighboring allied countries; who are, in turn, being destabilized.  Working and middle class Syrians, displaced, moving to the desert where there is no water, no survival kit to speak of.  Albeit, the Syrians are remarkably resourceful people,  building life saving infrastructures in camps with the little they have.
