SKY WATCH FRIDAY - THIS UNIQUE SUNRISE OCCURRED AT 7 AM ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, NYC

IT TOOK FIVE SHOTS TO CONVINCE ME THAT THERE REALLY WAS ANOTHER IMAGE BENEATH THE SUN ITSELF...

For me, an unexplained phenomena.....did anyone else see it, I wonder?

WATERY WEDNESDAY- TRAVELS WITH MY NIECE: DESTINATION - MARGATE IN THANET, KENT...

Looking across from here, the jetty, towards the promanade, and famous Dreamland (now to be made into a theme park), the tide is on its way out - it goes way out - leaving pools for paddling, sea weed, and gulls...  It is Sunday and the jetty is open to small, garage-like eatery stores, and an art auction...

This is the new Turner Contemporary Center - closed at moment to install Turner paintings and Rodin's 'The Kiss' by the Tate in London.  (JMW Turner 1775-1851 lived and painted in his small house here).

Located at the foot of the jetty, overlooking the ocean where the pier used to be.

FOR MORE WATERY WEDNESDAY PLEASE VISIT HERE!

I fly home to US on Wednesday - until, then, friends!

SKY WATCH FRIDAY-TRAVELS WITH MY NIECE: ON LEAVING THE GREEN PASTURES OF ENGLAND, SIGHTED FROM THE M25 HIGHWAY ON THE WAY TO HEATHROW...

The clouds really did seem to hang closer to the earth than anywhere else, setting off the green of the countryside.  Views from the car showed the distinctive patchwork-like land divided by maintained hedges, shrubs and trees.  Crops and 'cattle' (mainly cows and sheep grazing) seen clearly from the highway, reminding me of paintings by Constable.  By the way, that group of cows seen resting in the header, were still resting on my return to the airport, while others were not.  I am still wondering about that!  I am adding the photo below that was an extraordinary sight - being a city dweller, I  have never seen one before:  a wind farm, thankfully located (I imagine) out at sea!

Off the coast of Cliftonville, Thanet, Kent.

SKYWATCH FRIDAY - TRAVELS WITH MY NIECE: A DRAMA IN THE SKY, HERE IN MARGATE, UK

View of sunset looking towards Margate Harbour from cliff-top in Cliftonville, UK.
Actually, it was the form in the sky that got my attention, while the character of the sunset looked
quite different from ones I have shot in the NYC.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - TRAVELS WITH MY NIECE...

We visited family in Faversham, Kent, stopping at a pub for dinner, eating outside in the garden.  The weather was perfect.

At The ALBION on Faversham Creek

Left - Bernice's brother Paul and family, McKinley and baby Jasper, behind him is Jean and my brother Ronald at the head of the table.  I am staying with Jean and Ronald who still live in my grandmother's house in Westbrook, Margate, Kent.

BLACK AND WHITE WEEKEND ...TRAVELS WITH MY NIECE, BEGINNING AUGUST 22....

At  the very top (beneath the eaves) is the Bridge - we viewed several officers milling about, viewing electronic data - one was in the center on a high chair just viewing the scene from inside and looking out.    Mostly it was a fairly calm voyage, no other shipping in sight. Each day we set our watches 1 hr. ahead of New York time - so now we are five hour ahead of you all...

FOR MORE BLACK AND WHITE WEEKEND PLEASE VISIT DRAGONSTAR HERE!

Once we left sight of the shore, there was nothing much to see except spectacular sunsets, clouds and the changing patterns of the waves.  We felt very little motion.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY - TRAVELS WITH MY NIECE...CONTINUED FROM AUGUST 22 POST...

Bernice would begin her day walking around the deck of the QM2 three times, as many other passengers would do;  as many as there were, the ship would still feel remarkably uncrowded.
Then she would bring me a cup of coffee!   Next, a buffet breakfast on deck 7, followed by
checking out the stores on deck 3, before finding some activity like a lecture, or simply exploring the whereabouts of everything else one can do.  It is a world unto itself.  Afternoon tea at 4 pm and a chance to eat scones with strawberry jam and real cream!  Dinner usually at 6 pm.  In the end we preferred the buffet offerings elsewhere, one of which was open all night.  Then off to
the theatre or the cinema.

WATERY WEDNESDAY - WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE...

Photographing the ocean became a fascinating project - the best moments so fleeting...

We made the most of it!

The color changes, the wind and surf, and the effect of the sun rays on the ripples and the rolling waves - we did not see the moon!
