SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY - THE UTILITIES

Today, roof top appliances on newer buildings are much more sophisticated to look at, but the older water boy, seen here as a shadow from another building, is still a familiar sight in NYC;   buildings still using oil burners are often required to add external smoke stacks, as seen to the right, and may only
emit smoke for a limited number of hours.

  1. The darkness of the shadow is off-set by the glittering elevators (?) to the right. We're side-by-side on SSS again! You must be blogging in the middle of the night! I'm just about to have lunch.

  2. The building is not unattractive, but the off-white brick is more nondescript. Therefore, the shadow adds an artistic charcoal highlight to the tall apartment flat. The light patterns on the further away building is rich and artistic. Lovely NYC views!

  4. Beautiful shadows you've captured on the building. Are those large shadows from the roof of another building?

    Interesting photo.

    Happy shadow hunting!

  6. What a fascinating image - what is that reflected on the right-hand-side? It makes the building look very festive.

  8. Oil burnes? In the kitchen or for heating? Sorry if this question is stupid but this is new for me...
"Water boy" - new buildings don't have them anymore?

Oh how different our worlds are! I just love to learn new things, thanks for sharing and

    happy SS Sunday!

  13. I love how you have used shadows to transform a nondescript building into art. Great shot.
