SKYWATCH FRIDAY - DAWN AT 7 AM, SUN UP 7.20 AM - THE DAY FOLLOWING THE BLIZZARD...

On the day that many woke-up to the sight of many inches of snow, the sky looked like it was on fire as the sun broke the horizon line and lit up the clouds...

At my constant position, seen from my 10th floor kitchen window facing east, the sun now rises far to the right, behind NYU's Dorm (built two years ago) for 700 students.  I have not seen such a spectacular a sky like this in months.   Included is the power station because it enhanced the 3-D effect that the sun and shadows create.  By 7.20 am the sun glared into view and was too strong to be photographed!

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - IT WAS SO COLD THE CAMERA SHOOK!

THIS IS A SHAPE THAT ALWAYS INTRIGUES ME - AS FAMILIAR AS
A PARTICULAR RELIGIOUS ICON.
IT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION ONE COLD DAY AS I WAS CROSSING BUSY 14th Street and 4th Avenue, NY.  SUDDENLY, THE LATE AFTERNOON SUN SHONE, AND THIS OUTLINE STOOD OUT - THE DROOP OF A BRANCH, THE STOUT BLACK TRUNK, THE  HALO.

BELOW THE PHOTO FRAME, SHIVERING LAST MINUTE CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS RUSHED HOMEWARD, READY FOR THE WARMTH OF CELEBRATIONS WHATEVER THEIR FAITH.   AND THE CHEERY THOUGHT OF SPRING ON ITS WAY AGAIN IN 2011.

NEW YORK ARTISTS OF UNION SQUARE PARK HAVE GOT THEIR MARCHING ORDERS...

JUDGE RULES AGAINST ARTISTS IN THE PARK - NO MORE ART SALES IN UNION SQUARE PARK,  EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

In effect, dozens of New York artists have just lost their jobs!
Happy Holidays Mr. Mayor!

Above - Donna Lee Michas, photographer, has a great website, including her Etsy Gallery: http://f47.foliophotos.com.   But it does not pay the rent!   Do visit her there where you will find framed photos for sale more reasonably priced than anywhere else.

There is something obscene about the way New York Street Artists are being shooed out of New York City Public Parks (our parks - in particular Union Square Park who are permitted a few selling spots) to be replaced by vendors who are paying thousands for the privilege of selling their Christmas wares (protected from the arctic chills by heaters and shelters) at vastly higher prices to help pay the rent.  Wake-up New Yorkers as the of poetry life is rudely replaced by the power brokers of New York.   Shame on you Mr. Mayor!

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY - IN TANDEM IN NYC!

PS   Alas, the streets are not paved with gold (that is gum that you see) and a cleanup truck can be hired by store-front owners to clean it up.
