MOTION THURSDAY - DANCE DEMO IN UNION SQUARE PARK

A spectacular demonstration of exotic dance moves by performers in flamboyant costumes.  I missed the MOST exotic event and then it rained soon after this one.  Never a dull moment when walking through this park in NYC.

SKYWATCH FRIDAY - A PALE SUN SHOWED BUT FOR A MOMENT, THEN WAS GONE

Taken from my constant position at the kitchen window (10th floor NYC).     A month ago the sun was rising to the far right of the chimneys!

PS  The latest news is that volcanic ash is covering the skies of northern europe, closing down
airports.

MOTION THURSDAY - CATNIP ....

'....... a plant of the mint family, having strongly scented leaves of which cats are fond'.   That is putting it mildly, as she bites into her spiked mouse!

    Missy in ecstasy!

Please visit MOTION THURSDAY and join if you have moving photographs of interest!

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY - THE HAZARDS OF BIKING IN NEW YORK CITY

A street installation on Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn.     Artist's name unknown at the time of publishing this photograph.    Unless that is his portrait on the right that is drawn in the center of the carpet.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - REFLECTING UPON A REFLECTION!

Setting sun reflected in a car window - editing the result of one photograph became a printing project of personal interest akin to painting, almost.
 Incidentally, there is a small
exhibit on at the moment at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY called Modern Photography - it is well worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood.

SKYWATCH FRIDAY - PASSING THOUGHTS

A different vantage point from my usual position from the kitchen window - I am walking along Fourth Avenue,  looking up,  and see this image in the sky - as it happens I have been thinking about cats.  Could it be that I am simply projecting...... What do you see!

RUBY TUESDAY - A multicolour woodcut is my contribution to this week's Ruby Tuesday

MINTA'S GLOW  ....  and the lost brooch

Print size 9" x 13"  Edition 5

From a series of impressions of Virginia Woolf's novel
 TO THE LIGHTHOUSE

To quote:  '...it might be true that she minded losing her brooch, but she wasn't crying for that. She was crying for something else.  We might all sit down and cry, she felt, but she didn't know what for.'

(Possibly for the loss of not only her grandmother's brooch but for her loss of innocence while on that walk.  Anyway, Mrs. Ramsay is satisfied that an engagement has taken place!)

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY - YOU'VE ALWAYS GOT ME AS A FRIEND, THE 'WATER BOY'

Of all the utilities we have to use, the Water Tower is the most reliable for providing tap water when we need it.  It is simply a large elevated tank of water atop all older buildings to provide water pressure.  It is said to be the one utility that rarely breaks down.  This is typically the shape found in NYC.  In the suburbs they can be all shapes and sizes, one gigantic tank on stilts generally providing for one community.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - Gandhi always remembered in Union Square, NYC

ALAS, NOT EVERYTHING HE HAS SAID, IS -

(See Saturday's shake the pillow day below - it was not exactly non-violent!)

Sculptor: K.B.PATEL - India                                         The pink Magnolia

"The future depends on what we do in the present" - Gandhi 1869-1948

A simple common sense quotation to think about but, evidently, so difficult to grasp and be understood by military chiefs of warfare when defensive and offensive options present themselves.
I am reminded of Brenda Bryant's Acrostic post called CHEMICAL WARFARE (April 1) this week at

I was told by a NYPD Community Services cop that this takes place in Union Square every year as a protest against the war. This year they have a permit!  For the past 15 years it has been a spontaneous event.

SKYWATCH FRIDAY - FROM CLOUDY TO CLEAR

Between 7.00 and 7.30 am this sky scape rapidly changed as sequential shots were taken -  with one or two close-up shots of sunny clouds and patches of blue

Each shot can be enlarged separately

In the final shot Manhattan Bridge is noted on the left side, over which bumper-to-bumper traffic (glinting in the the sun) can be observed.  The east bound airliner is headed for Kennedy Airport on Long Island.
