SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY - A STAR MAGNOLIA

I have been waiting for weeks for this magnolia to bloom, then I missed its first burst.
The shadow behind it was a plus today!

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - THE DANCING HOUSE

DO WE HAVE TIME TO STOP AND LOOK AT THE CONCRETE WORLD AROUND US REFLECTED IN MOTOR CAR WINDOWS?

THIS PHOTO OF A REFLECTION SEEN IN THE WINDSCREEN OF A PARKED CAR REMINDS ME OF A BUILDING BUILT BY FAMOUS ARCHITECT, Frank Gehry, IN PRAGUE,  KNOWN AS THE 'RASIN BUILDING', OR THE 'DANCING HOUSE', AS SEEN BELOW -

I WISH Frank Gehry WOULD BUILD MORE OF HIS FINE IMAGINATIVE BUILDINGS HERE IN THE UNITED STATES!

SKYWATCH FRIDAY - RAIN CLOUDS OVER BETHPAGE STATE PARK, LONG ISLAND

Behind those trees, looking up from backyards, is BETHPAGE STATE PARK GOLF COURSE,  known as the 18-HOLE 'BLACK' COURSE*, in Farmingdale, NY, site of the 2002 and 2009 US OPEN

*Note:  A Tillinghast designed course with bunkers in triple digit numbers, 7,386 yards, 144 slope rated.   A VERY difficult course to play - hence, the Black Course!

MOTION THURSDAY - MOTION, EMOTION - THE SWINGER

A sunny day, between rainy days. A good day for a yard cleanup and a quick, hyper-swing act, before the work starts!

And Dad is on the job already!  And the next day it rained again.

Do visit  MOTION THURSDAY for more images on the move

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY - A MASTER AT THE MANDALA IN UNION SQUARE

This is JOE MANGRUM working with coloured sand in Union Square Thursday.  He uses one hand to pour the sand and the other to answer the phone!

Seems like we don't have time to do one thing at a time anymore!

SKYWATCH FRIDAY - WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON GLOBALLY?

I usually photograph the sunrise from the same place in my apartment kitchen.  Today, it is
noted that the sunrise is occurring behind the square building with the chimney.

A month ago, before the Chilean earthquake,  it was rising closer to the right of the picture,
as noted below.

It has been reported by a NASA scientist that the Chilean Quake has shifted the earth's Axis;  that, while individuals would not experience the magnitude of the shift, it means that our days are
a bit shorter because of it.   The story was written by Alex Morales for Bloomberg on March 1, 2010, at 2.28 PM East:  "CHILEAN QUAKE SHFTED EARTH'S AXIS"  It can be googled.

Yes, in the meantime, we have set our clocks forward an hour, but would this make much of a
difference where the sun rises, I wonder.   Curious Skywatcher!

RUBY TUESDAY - PORTRAIT OF A KITTEN now she has a family name

A RED COLLAR AND GOLDEN EYES - my new name is MISSY and I like it.  I spotted my 'just looking'  family at the pound and walked over to them!  I think I am 7 months old.

MACRO MONDAY - ON FINE PRUNING

The green thumb knows how to prune and when to prune.  In a city front yard, the Star Magnolia needs special care to keep its shape within bounds

MONOCHROME MONDAY - GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH

On 4th Avenue, opposite the Post Office on 11th Street.

Its Gothic architecture, rescued, maintained, slowly but surely: offering free Bach on Wednesdays, an independent junior school for 400 students and a modern playground weekdays, and lots more besides for the community.

This photograph is for monochrome weekend because something old sometimes looks better than something new.  (An aesthetically pleasing, ancient and modern, renovation has been quietly going on here for years)

MOTION THURSDAY - RUSH HOUR FROM BROOKLYN TO NYC

There are fifty steps to run up or down at 7th Street - no elevators or escalators.  It's too bad if you have
luggage, a stroller and child, or have a walking problem (the L line)!

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY - FLAG AND COLOURFUL SHADOW

Today has been the first gloriously sunny day in NYC in
a long while, throwing long shadows everywhere.   I could not resist shooting this one because the shadow is so colourful set against the building it represents.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - SLIPPING GLIMPSES

After the thaw comes the puddles - deep, dirty and splashy - yuk!   But, head down to the

wind, what a wondrous way to look at shapes so familiar to the eye!

MOTION THURSDAY: AN END-OF-SUMMER MIDNIGHT SWIM

Frankly, I don't remember how I did this!   I was experimenting with both a video take in my G7
Canon, and some stills I had taken at the same time.       I might have been trying to make a slide
show (one of my earlier ambitions) when first trying out the iMovie application in my Imac.  I still
     haven't made a slide show!

MONOCHROME MONDAY - HYDRANGEA

Spotted in a ground level townhouse backyard, the remaining wholeness of this hydrangea stood out gamely as the snow began its third onslaught earlier this week.  I stood in a puddle formed from the previous thaw, photographed it, and this is the result, among others.

STILL SURVIVING

This shot taken March 2, following a heavy snow storm!
