RUBY TUESDAY- EMPIRE STATE BUILDING, NEW YORK, USA

View from my 10th floor studio window:  of course, I have zoomed in on this, one of a number of
illuminated buildings to be seen from this window.  It is rare for such a clear shot, weather permitting, as
well as clear windows following light rain that has cleaned them!   My location is two blocks south of Union Square, New York.    Hooray, too, for my enabling Canon G7!

For more RUBY TUESDAY takes visit THE WORK OF THE POET theme here
Wishing you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR and lots more of Ruby Tuesday events!

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY - MATISSE ON ART

"...the retina demands surprises..."

From a poster:  From the Blue Nude series of cutouts (1952)   Gouache on paper,  cut and pasted on paper.

Matisse in a wheelchair, working on a cutout, Hotel Regina, Nice, 1952.   From MATISSE ON ART (Revised Edition) by Jack Flam (1995) University of California Press Berkely and L.A. California.

In an interview with Andre Verdet  (p. 212 paper back) Matisse explained that scissors can acquire more feeling for line than pencil or charcoal.  To him sensitivity often lies in the instantaneousness of gesture;  a freshness always carefully protected from what might elegantly sink into routine.

Thus, the gesture of the sun's rays has instantly changed, temporarily, the carefully protected elegance of a Blue Nude from sinking into its routinely accepted familiar shape.  That is what SSS is all about!

"MATISSE ON ART" is a fascinating discussion on the painter's thoughts about his creative process as Jack Flam documents the growth of early modernism of twentieth-century art.

MOTION THURSDAY - THE HIGH-WIRE ACT and a protest

  OOPSY DAISY!

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus at the Nassau Veterans Memorial  Coliseum, Long Island, early 2009

YIKES.....but, all is well.    Their antics were more scary and funny than the sad display of tyrannized lions!

Surely it is time to retire these beautiful cats and employ people who can make us laugh?

SKYWATCH FRIDAY - DAWN AND SUNRISE

I wake up to this unusual chilly looking dawn in NYC - clouds on the move

Then the horizon begins to warm up

Finally, the sun rises and I have to wear sunglasses to photograph

Then turn my back on it and look at it this way!

And make some coffee!
