THE WEEKEND IN BLACK AND WHITE: NOT WHAT YOU MIGHT THINK IT IS...

Deceptive shadows....

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS: POST SANDY - A 'CHRISTMAS' ROSE SURVIVOR...

The Christmas shopping fair is here in Union Square soon after the clean-up following hurricane Sandy.   The roses, today, blowing in the wind, have survived, whereas Union Square is missing elderly trees and limbs that opens the spaces to new possibilities, new beginnings.  Let us wish that all people still in jeopardy will be given what is needed to survive the rigors of the coming winter.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - MAKING GIANT-SIZE BUBBLES TODAY IN UNION SQUARE PARK, NYC -

All you need:  two bamboo sticks, a length of rope tied to the top of each one,
with another loop below.  Dip all into a bucket of bubbly.  Stand with your back to the breeze, open up the sticks and allow the beginning bubble to expand to maximum size.   The kids couldn't wait to have a go!  Mr. Bubbly says he just lost his job and this is much more fun - it pleases a crowd no end
and waiting for the big one just kept one hanging in there!

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY - WOOLS TO TEMPT AVID KNITTERS AND THOSE WHO LIKE TO CROCHET...

Whether one is one of those or not now,  a stand of skeins of lambs wool seen at the local
Green Market is hard to pass-by without the recall of distant memories!   WW2 was a time of
scarcity when it came to finding wools to knit a fair-isle pullover.  The palate of colors here was
breathtaking, as well as the cost of each skein - at $19 each!

RUBY TUESDAY - SUNDAY WAS A BARMY DAY HERE...

As we strolled along the Esplanade between West Thames and Battery Park, NY - this splash of red is my daughter-in-law, passing by South Cove - part park, part work of art - serving as a splendid lookout post to see across the water Lady Liberty and Ellis Island.  We lunched at the Open Table restaurant on fish and chips, the best I have ever tasted in the U.S (a fish called scrod, not cod?)

Then, this morning, I woke up to more snow!

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS - IT WAS SO COLD THE CAMERA SHOOK!

THIS IS A SHAPE THAT ALWAYS INTRIGUES ME - AS FAMILIAR AS
A PARTICULAR RELIGIOUS ICON.
IT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION ONE COLD DAY AS I WAS CROSSING BUSY 14th Street and 4th Avenue, NY.  SUDDENLY, THE LATE AFTERNOON SUN SHONE, AND THIS OUTLINE STOOD OUT - THE DROOP OF A BRANCH, THE STOUT BLACK TRUNK, THE  HALO.

BELOW THE PHOTO FRAME, SHIVERING LAST MINUTE CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS RUSHED HOMEWARD, READY FOR THE WARMTH OF CELEBRATIONS WHATEVER THEIR FAITH.   AND THE CHEERY THOUGHT OF SPRING ON ITS WAY AGAIN IN 2011.
