A visit to Zuccotti Park in Wall Street yesterday with friend Mary Westring revealed, not rag-tag groupies smoking pot, but industrious activists of all shapes and sizes making signs, providing materials to make signs. I saw guys take off their t-shirts to get an OCCUPY WALL STREET sign silkscreened on the spot! There were white t-shirts available for those who preferred to let it dry!

Well organized, well publicized in several cities, a professionally printed newspaper to be distributed today

There is a kitchen receiving donations of food for the sleepovers (no mattresses allowed, just tarps to sleep under) and a list of activities for the day...

Looking across from here, the jetty, towards the promanade, and famous Dreamland (now to be made into a theme park), the tide is on its way out - it goes way out - leaving pools for paddling, sea weed, and gulls... It is Sunday and the jetty is open to small, garage-like eatery stores, and an art auction...

This is the new Turner Contemporary Center - closed at moment to install Turner paintings and Rodin's 'The Kiss' by the Tate in London. (JMW Turner 1775-1851 lived and painted in his small house here).

Located at the foot of the jetty, overlooking the ocean where the pier used to be.

The clouds really did seem to hang closer to the earth than anywhere else, setting off the green of the countryside. Views from the car showed the distinctive patchwork-like land divided by maintained hedges, shrubs and trees. Crops and 'cattle' (mainly cows and sheep grazing) seen clearly from the highway, reminding me of paintings by Constable. By the way, that group of cows seen resting in the header, were still resting on my return to the airport, while others were not. I am still wondering about that! I am adding the photo below that was an extraordinary sight - being a city dweller, I have never seen one before: a wind farm, thankfully located (I imagine) out at sea!

Once we left sight of the shore, there was nothing much to see except spectacular sunsets, clouds and the changing patterns of the waves. We felt very little motion.

Bernice would begin her day walking around the deck of the QM2 three times, as many other passengers would do; as many as there were, the ship would still feel remarkably uncrowded.

Then she would bring me a cup of coffee! Next, a buffet breakfast on deck 7, followed by

checking out the stores on deck 3, before finding some activity like a lecture, or simply exploring the whereabouts of everything else one can do. It is a world unto itself. Afternoon tea at 4 pm and a chance to eat scones with strawberry jam and real cream! Dinner usually at 6 pm. In the end we preferred the buffet offerings elsewhere, one of which was open all night. Then off to

the theatre or the cinema.

Land, at last, sighted at dawn, following 7 days of scenic surf and sea, not another ship, whale or dolphin

to be seen. The weather was remarkably good considering the alarming news of IRENE which reached the east coast of NY the day we left. The internet connection was interrupted many times and we could only watch and fear the worst of the impact for those caught in its path on Tv.

Tugs busily enabling QM2 to reverse into harbor.

Our last naughty early morning breakfast on board! Pate, hash browns, streaky bacon

tomato and toast. Resisted adding all sorts of other equally mouth-watering variations of a typically English breakfast offered buffet style.

It was so good to be away from an incredibly noisy NYC existence for a week! And two days later I am still struck how quiet it is everywhere!

Hi every one - It was a close encounter that I cannot show at this time because it takes so long to upload photos. We are on our way in the QM2 sailing for Southampton, UK, niece Bernice and I, so far enjoying sunny weather, a calm sea and a noiseless, sedate world in itself, except for the periodic ship announcements and ding dongs. There is much to do, lots to eat and endless walking and lounging in the sun. We're on deck 5, in the middle of the ship a cabin with a protected deck. The motion is very slight but looking out while eating at the same time can be disturbing...it is an awesome experience of swell and glittering sparkling sea. More tomorrow for online time is short and posting has to be done with all speed! CHEERS!

They came to the U.S in 1774 advocating celibacy, common ownership of property, and a strict, simple way of life. They performed a ritualistic dance with shaking movements, became known as the SHAKERS. Chairs hung
on the wall is an example of how they would store chairs.
