It's shown in his book, "Creative Black and White Photography" -- and excellent book.

I seems that Les was wandering around a NYC park one day looking for photo subjects when a man approached him and asked if Les would like to play a game of chess for money (hence the hustler tag). Les declined but the guy agreed to allow Les to photograph him. The candid portrait is very well done.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-779182691158191830.post-39262481588035543952010-02-23T17:49:58.014-08:002010-02-23T17:49:58.014-08:00Chess hustlers? I checked the book out of the public library a few weeks ago only to discover that some moron had ripped pages out. I found a used copy in good condition on Amazon for less than $10. I needed that one in my library in any case. So hurry USPS. I want that book yesterday.John McDevitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10041031792596531392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-779182691158191830.post-75817289859327827532010-02-22T09:28:45.661-08:002010-02-22T09:28:45.661-08:00Loved our trip to NY last year, didn't get to ...Loved our trip to NY last year, didn't get to see the chess players, so thanks for that one.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05697994929567403766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-779182691158191830.post-32619713089065255522010-02-22T02:38:50.338-08:002010-02-22T02:38:50.338-08:00It does look cold.
